Film Business Process

The idea- the writer gets an idea

Development - The rough idea is then turned into a final script ready for production

Script Development - with development finance secured, its down to the writer to deliver the product that the producer and financier wants.

Packaging - With the script complete the director and producer decide how they want to film it. And who they employ to help.

Financing - Film making is an expensive Business. And the producer must secure enough funding to make the film to the highest standard.

Pre-production - with the finance secured. The full cast and crew are hired. And Detailed preparation for the shoot begins.

The shoot - a large film production can involve hundreds of people. And its a constant struggle to keep it on schedule and budget.

Post Production - post production can usually starts during the shoot. As soon as the first rushes raw footage and sound.

Sales - while the film is still in post. The producer is out selling it. But she cant sell it directly to the public herself she needs a distributor.

Marketing - The distributors plan their strategy and begin to market it.

Exhibition - cinema exhibition is the primary channel for films to reach their audiences. Box office success equals financial success.
